Grace is a great coat with loads of personality. Double breasted, set in sleeve side panels with deep pleats and totally lined. Or make it in linen without a lining.

    Great coat with some errors

Posted by Yuliya on Dec 30th 2020

I made this coat in 3X, and here are my notes: 1. Coat pictures show pockets, yet the pattern doesn't include them, nor are they mentioned in the instructions. 2. Coat picture shows collar wrapping around entire neck and ALMOST meeting in the middle front, yet the pattern for the collar is too narrow, it doesn't wrap around the neck, but rather stops an inch or so past the shoulder seam. It creates a cute sailor-like collar that falls back gently, but not what's in the photo. The lapels need deeper (wider) self-facing, so that when you wear the coat without closing the buttons and when lapels fold outward, the lining doesn't show, but rather you see the self-facing instead, that's normally how double breasted jackets are constructed. Placement of the buttons needs to be on the pattern because it's a double breasted coat. Many typos in the instructions. Major error on the pattern itself where the "lower side" pattern is called "lower back", which was confusing. The coat fits very nicely and is a great little coat that I will wear a lot, but I had to down-grade it due to the above deficiencies. Would love to make those companion pants, but the pattern doesn't say which pants they were. I sent an email a month or so ago asking what pants they were, and got no response.

    Full of Grace and Beauty!

Posted by Carolina Thomas on Dec 23rd 2019

I was thrilled to put this coat together! I made five modifications to my liking, but truly you cannot go wrong with the original Grace. She was a breeze to sew and no real surprises with just a couple of exceptions; for example, the sleeves were not necessarily to scale with the rest of the pattern and the cuffs were not as straight forward as I had hoped (I'm still learning to sew), but all in all within 3 days, I had an organic cotton twill coat with a linen lining that exudes rich uniqueness I could not find anywhere. My complete modification were: 1. extra large collar 2. super full sleeves 3. super thick cuffs 4 Five (raw side) Coconut buttons 5. Folded in one lapel on the right to place buttons and overlap floppy asymmetrical collar. 6. opted for pockets (doesn't have them included) 7. made my side panels in the 3x size to do funky pleats & gathering. Major take away -- double check your sleeve and cuffs in pattern before you cut that beautiful fabric. It really made a wonderful "save" for me measure that out before hand! I could not recommend this pattern enough! Fast, simple and a unique vintage vibe!
